Had dinner and a couple of pints of Bellringers at Galbraith's [B][B].

Today I had a couple of problems with my RH8 system. When I need help I turn to Google, although sometimes I get distracted.

I had broken symbolic links I needed to find and remove...
The Answer Gang had the answer.
But when I tried to install the symlinks package RPM would just hang...
Shadowman had the smackdown for that.

Thursday, 20 March 2003
Got my stiches removed. Played XConq all day. Not much else.

Wednesday, 19 March 2003
Installed MPlayer. Created new Subersion repository. Cleaned out fridge x-P. Backed up PC.

Helped Ralph pump out his flooded garage. Moved Rebecca's stuff in my garage back from the rising waters.

I've been playing with http://www.archive.org/. Lots of fun! Rebecca's moved out, so I have the flat to myself again.

Sunday, 09 March 2003
Family lunch at my place. Caught up with my cousin Nicola, met Mark her husband and their new baby Georgia (my cousin-once-removed?).

Spent the evening playing Xconq.

Saturday, 08 March 2003
Went tramping in the Waitakeres - Fairy Falls/Old Coach Rd circuit. Forgot to take my camera, but here's a photo of the falls from http://www.thenewzealandsite.com.

OK, the Abi helloworld is very rotten. Haven't managed to get it working, but I have learned quite a lot about the Abi application framework. Don't think it is worth carrying on with though. Just linker errors left, but over 1000 of them! Time to cut my loses and move on.

Also today: Subscribed to Daily Dilbert; Oliver caught a cicada; went to the Gym.

Wednesday, 05 March 2003
Sendmail has a security hole :-O. Updated RPMs. I'd already downloaded the RPMs, just hadn't gotten around to applying them. Should be all up to date now.

[abi] Rebuilt AbiWord. Trying to come to grips with AbiWord's build system. As if I haven't had enough of cross-platform code! Perhaps Boost.Jam could be used for AbiWord?

Goal for tommorrow is to get the Abi helloworld example running. Looks like it's suffered from code rot, but seems like a good simple introduction to the Abi application frame-work.

I am on holiday until 24 March 2003 B-). I'm lucky I booked this leave before the announcement of redundancy. Means I miss all the stress of handing over to the 'mericans.

It would be very easy for me to waste the year. My plan is to record what I'm working on, on this webpage, to keep myself honest :-).

This is an emulation of Alan Cox. (Although I'm not planning to write my news in Welsh.)

Now I'm off to have an afternoon nap.
