Do I really need a car?

, , , david, Sunday, 12:33 pm

I haven’t driven my car in over a week. Normally I’d catch the bus some days, but other days go for car convenience. It hasn’t been a planned decision not to drive it, but I just don’t want to spend over $1.80/L on petrol. So, increased petrol prices are good for the environment, and the buses have been fine so far. Others live pretty carless lives, it makes me wonder if I could get by without the car altogether. I should budget how much the car costs when it is not running, and what the alternatives are. I should also do a general budget. More stuff for my ToDo list.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again – housetruck!

But if you give up your car, how would we get down to National Park?

Actually if you start factoring in how much a car really costs you, including petrol, registration, insurance, maintenance, and the money you’re losing as it depreciates, it equates to a lot of beer and taxi rides…

@M: We could take the train? My car is pretty old, don’t think it is depreciating too fast anymore. Will need to do some gnumericing.
@S: Yes OK housetruck, that’d save petrol.

Well, it would! Most of them run on diesel :P

You budget money for a rental car which means when you NEED a car you just hire one. PS I cannae see my text where it goes past your banner on the right…?
