Quick drink after work

, , , , david, Wednesday, 7:13 pm

Was good to catch up with friends for a quick drink at the Kingslander. I had to leave in time to get home in time to inject Ollie with his insulin, but was good to see Simon, Tim, Michelle & Brian. Apparantly we’re doing a proper catch up this weekend. Look forward to it.

On buying a new camera: I’m down to choosing between the Panasonic DMC-TZ5 and the Canon SD870 IS. Favouring the TZ5, but have heard I want firmware >= 1.1.3. See my choices.

So, looking at your requirements again… “I want something light to take tramping, wide-angled enough to capture landscapes and fast enough to snap fantails. Good battery life wouldn’t be bad either, though I could always buy a second battery. I’m thinking of spending say $300-$500.” I think you should reexamine your criteria. You’re cutting out a huge segment of the market with the wide angle requirement. This can typically be handle really well with 2 shot panoramas and some stitching. In which case I suggest looking at something more like a… you know what? Just been looking at the TZ5 and it’s pretty good. I LIKE the wide angle. Forget it, stitching is for old women! Buy it!!!

The updated firmware is now available for download, so I guess I should just go buy one.

We were there from 2 – 4. Seems no one remembered what time was decided. Was not a well organised piss up.
