Mount Te Aroha Tramp
Excellent tramp. Walked up Waiorongomai valley, mostly following old gold tramways. The inclines I thought were just steep sections when I saw them marked on the map turn out to be where the cars were winched up the mountainside. The track then went up over the saddle and up Mt Te Aroha. Visibility was pretty bad from the top, but it cleared a bit while I was up there. Came down the mountain track back into town. Had a beer at the Te Aroha pub ($5/pint), then fell asleep.

You feel asleep in the pub and Tim wasn’t there to wake you up with his old head on the table trick?!?
We are getting too old for this drinking business.

I made it back across the road to my motel room before falling asleep. Definitely not as fit as I once was, I’m still stiff and sore from the tramp today. We should go back to Sunday lunches instead of Friday nights, much more suitable for our age group.

I always figure the day I find myself sitting with my legs crossed one knee over the other is the day I am old!

That’s the wetland on the other side of the Piako River. That green shed is actually a hide for bird watching. You can even see it here on Google maps.
