T-Shirts don't last forever ☹

, , , , , , david, Sunday, 10:55 pm

tshirts
You can tell my favourite T-shirts by their holey tattered appearance, but even for me these shirts are looking scruffy. Unlike a friend who creatively turned his old t-shirts into a patchwork quilt, these are destined for the rag bin ☹.

Nova ScotiaThis t-shirt is from Nova Scotia is from when I was living in Toronto, and took a trip to see the ocean. Saw the Endeavour replica in Halifax before driving up to Cape Breton Island. Was in Fall, on the Canadian Thanksgiving (which is a month before the American one) spectacular with forests of brillant colour. Stayed at a B&B in Inverness which was found for me by the campsite operator when I couldn’t find a bed there. Visited Alexander Graham Bell’s home. Had a great time. Nova Scotia is a place I’d like to go back to one day.

Museum, Vancouver This one is also from when I was living in Canada and visited the Museum of Anthropology at UBC in Vancouver. Was passing through on a visit home to Auckland. I really liked that design, I’ve even looked at trying to buy a replacement, but it seems they don’t sell it anymore. Must find out who the artist is. The design is signed, but it’s hard to make the signature out.

Tim Finn, Bic Runga & Dave Dobbyn, Together in Concert I went and saw Tim, Bic and Dave at their Together in Concert show in 2000. To me this is about when Kiwi music started to get a new lease of life. Was a good night out anyway.

Genève My sister brought this t-shirt back for me from the International Red Cross/Red Crescent museum in Genève. Our mother was very involved in the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement.

cd /pub; more beer Geeks everywhere understood this shirt. It can be hard to explain it in a bar though. It does mix the /pub directory from FTP sites in with standard shell commands. Basically though it says “go to the pub, drink more beer”.

House warming

, , , , david, Wednesday, 10:49 pm

Had a house warming in my new lounge, aka the London Bar. Followed by an inspection of the apartment and then pizza at Pizza Pizza.

Came home to Vector playing with the lamppost outside my flat, still trying to work out what they’re up to.

Quick drink after work

, , , , david, Wednesday, 7:13 pm

Was good to catch up with friends for a quick drink at the Kingslander. I had to leave in time to get home in time to inject Ollie with his insulin, but was good to see Simon, Tim, Michelle & Brian. Apparantly we’re doing a proper catch up this weekend. Look forward to it.

On buying a new camera: I’m down to choosing between the Panasonic DMC-TZ5 and the Canon SD870 IS. Favouring the TZ5, but have heard I want firmware >= 1.1.3. See my choices.

Brewing beer

, david, Monday, 11:26 pm

I started brewing a batch of beer – Black Rock, East IPA.   I took some photos, but my camera has finally died – see previous post about needing a new camera.

The real news will be in the tasting in a couple of months time.  If I don’t post anything then it’ll be because it is a failure.  At least I’ve got the right amount of water this time.  Not like the last batch where I tried to follow two sets of instructions at once and added 3 litres too much water.  The main problem this time is I’ve lost the temperature guage, so don’t know if the liquid is too hot or too cold.  I’ve put a heating pad under the vat because it is getting cool at night.

Driving and Drinking

, , , david, Friday, 9:28 pm

and eating.
Had the Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 ship party today. Driving carts on the Auckland Luge and drinking, the perfect combination ;-) Responsibly we did the driving before the drinking. We had a nice meal at the Long Bay Restaurant too.

The photo is thanks to Michael. As you can see I was having a great time. Pity you can’t see have fast I was going!
