Lucky I didn’t burn the house down

, david, Sunday, 4:32 pm

Making pancakes. Stupidly I had the spatula sitting on the stove top, and then even more stupidly I turned on the element where it was rather than the one under the frying pan. All caught on the web-cam.

Making pancakes Fire! Fire!! Oh sh!t

Not sure I can be trusted to operate kitchen appliances on a Sunday morning.

Mmmm fire

, , david, Saturday, 5:16 pm

Who let the pyromanic buy a house with a fireplace :-) Got the fireplace inspected and the chimney cleaned today, so have lit the fire for the first time. The previous owner didn’t use it, so I was worried there might be something wrong with it, but it works very well for an open fire with such a small grate. It draws well which was something we were unsure how it’d do. There was some wood and coal left in the garage which I’m burning, but I guess it will go pretty quick.

And the carbon emissions? Hmm, well the ACT party says it doesn’t matter, but I disagree. Hopefully I can still have the odd fire while still reducing my footprint. I am interested in getting solar water heating and even solar power, but I think the roof needs to be strengthened first before putting anything too heavy on it. That’s a longer term plan.

The air conditioning system at work started belching out smoke resulting in a full fire alert.
